history of n3518g and specifications

This particular AT-6 came to life in 1943

in the middle of the great WWII. It was built at the North American Aviation plant in Los Angeles for the United States Army Air Corp ( USAAC ). It was used to train pilots who later transitioned  into P-51 Mustangs , Corsairs or other fighter aircraft.  In 1949

it was shipped off to the North American Aviation plant in Texas where is was completely disassembled and rebuilt.

It came out of that as a 1950 T-6G model with a complete new serial number S/N TA-1291  and assigned to the United States Air Force California Air National Guard  Unit for flight training and reconnaissance.   Late in the 1950’s it was transferred to the aircraft boneyard at Davis-Monthom air base in Arizona. After several years there it was found and sold to Jack Gerst of San Jose , Ca. , as a civilian aircraft and was registered as N3518G. Jack restored  it from 1960-1966. It was then sold to Frank Wilson in Pennsylvania who owned it until 1969.  It flew in the Reno Air Races that year in 1969. After that time it was put into storage for about 10 years until a doctor from New York , Dr. Michael Schloss purchased it refurbished it again and flew it from 1980 until 1999.  Dr, Schloss flew it several time over the North Atlantic to Europe and back.  Sold to Richard Bibb of Oak Hill , Virginia in 2000 .  In 2008 it sustained a minor accident , was purchased by Ross Dillman and Mike Truschel of Warrenton Virginia and the wings were completely rebuilt along with other improvements.   In late 2012  I purchased this warbird from Mr. Truschel and flew it back from the east cost to Sonoma, Calif.
